Where to Begin

When it comes to choosing a soap, we recommend that you narrow down the options by taking the following factors into consideration.

  • Ingredients. It is hard to suggest any specific ingredients without knowing what causes your eczema flare-ups.

We recommend that you go as natural as possible when it comes to the ingredients in order to eliminate any of the harsh chemicals that many manufacturers use in their formulas that end up irritating eczema even further. Also, avoid products that contain artificial fragrances (i.e. parfum) in them.

Plant extracts, essential oils, oatmeal, shea butter, Dead Sea mud and even zinc can help calm the skin and return it to normal, but the success of any of these depends entirely on your body’s reaction to them!

If you try a new soap and notice no difference, then it’s probably not the right soap for you.

  • Consistency. As you can see in our table above, we’ve listed the soap type for you: liquid, bar or even packets of powder in the case of number 3.

We can’t say that one works better than the other, but if you do enjoy taking baths and soaking in the water, the packets of powder or a liquid soap are your best bet.

Black Soap

You’ll notice in our list for the best soap for eczema that there are quite a few black African soaps. That’s because this particular soap usually contains plantain ash or palm ash – along with plenty of other great ingredients – which has been used on the African continent for centuries to help cure common skin problems.

Hey, if it worked for Cleopatra it just might work for you!

Don’t Exclude Baby Products

Baby soaps are some of the gentlest formulas on Earth and just because it says “baby” on the label doesn’t mean adults can’t benefit from it, too!

As you can see from our selection, we’ve included Aveeno’s Baby Soothing Treatment Bath for anyone who wants to soak his or her eczema away in the bathtub.

Baby soaps and shampoos are very delicate on the skin, which is exactly what you need when treating patches of eczema on the body.

Top 3 Best Soap for Eczema Reviews

1. Aspen Kay Dead Sea Mud Soap Bar

This 4.5-ounce bar of soap is formulated with plenty of ingredients that can help diminish your eczema woes: Dead Sea mud (full of skin nourishing minerals), shea butter, extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil, sustainable palm oil and castor bean oil (all of which are certified organic).

This is seriously one of our favorite go-to soaps since it can be used for treating so many things. From eczema to acne flare-ups, this soap helps many achieve the healthy, nourished skin they desire from head to toe.

Tried it already and didn’t have any luck? Check out the next two options!

2. Nubian Heritage Soap Bar, African Black

This is one of the famous African black soaps that contains a bit of palm ash, tamarind extract and plantain peel. It seems to work wonders for many eczema sufferers, acne-sufferers and anyone who is in need of a natural product to help nourish the skin.

It comes in a 5-ounce bar and when comparing it with the previous product, you’ll notice that it is much more affordable and you even get slightly more product.

We love that it is made with certified organic coconut oil and shea butter, and that it is also cruelty-free!

Another great (and affordable) soap to help you keep your eczema under control.

3. Aveeno Baby Soothing Bath Treatment

As we mentioned earlier, this Aveeno product is actually intended for babies, but that is just for marketing purposes. Anyone with eczema can use it and we highly recommend that you do!

This is a colloidal oatmeal skin protectant that is free of steroids, fragrances, parabens and phthalates. It works to hydrate and calm the skin and is even recognized by the National Eczema Association.

If you don’t have a bathtub, then this probably isn’t the right choice for you since you need to use it as a soak. It will offer relief to irritated skin and while gently cleansing, and even though it will clean you, we would still suggest that you purchase one of the other soaps in our table for daily cleansing. This will offer you relief from an itchy, irritating eczema flare up and isn’t something you’ll use every day.
