10 Best Moisturizers for Sensitive Skin 2021

There are so many moisturizers out there that claim to be sensitive skin-friendly when, in fact, they are not.

If that’s the case, what should you look for when shopping for one? What ingredients should you avoid putting on your skin?

We’ll answer these questions for you below as we take a look at the best moisturizer for sensitive skin in our guide below.

But first, ask yourself this…

Do I Have Sensitive Skin?

You may not realize that your skin type falls into the sensitive category (you’re new to skin care) while others may think that they have sensitive skin when in fact, just one product caused some sort of negative reaction.

Here are some signs to help you determine whether or not you indeed have sensitive skin:

  • You frequently have issues/reactions to skin care products or even the weather
  • Frequent redness (just touching it lightly causes it to turn red) or itchiness
  • Symptoms (rashes, itchiness, dry skin, etc.) occur when you use common drugstore brand skin care products. Could be a cleanser, moisturizer, makeup, shaving cream, etc.

If you weren’t sure about your skin before, hopefully this has helped you determine that you do, in fact, require a product that is specially designed for sensitive skin!

Those of you who already knew you have sensitive skin can compare and contrast all of the top products below. Sick of your current moisturizer? Find a new one here!

Face or Body?

Some lotions are safe to use all over the body, face included, but if you have more specific needs for your face, then you should look into a facial moisturizer.

These usually have ingredients that regular moisturizing lotions don’t have in order to help combat wrinkles, acne scars and oil.

  • Face. If you’re looking for a facial moisturizer, you might consider a tinted moisturizer if you’re looking for a way to avoid makeup.

These help moisturize and even out your skin tone, which is great if you suffer from redness and don’t like wearing traditional foundation. Check out number 4 if this is what you’re looking for.

The best face moisturizer for sensitive skin that we’ve personally tried is Lavera (number 7) and Clinque (number 3).

Skin-Friendly Ingredients

Here are a few ingredients that we like to see on the label of a moisturizer:

  • Jojoba
  • Argan
  • Coconut
  • Shea Butter
  • Aloe Vera
  • Calendula
  • Honey
  • Cucumber
  • Oatmeal
  • Beeswax

Argan oil alone is great for moisturizing your skin, hair and strengthening your nails, which is why we included it on our list above!

Ingredients to Avoid

The following ingredients will only irritate your skin if you use them, so make sure that you do not see them on the label.

  • Artificial Fragrances
  • Alcohol
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Parabens or Phthalates
  • Mineral Oils
  • Benzyl Alcohol

Additional Tips

Here are a few extra tips that will help you weed out the wannabe moisturizers from the good stuff:

  • Try Baby Lotions. Quality creams and moisturizers that are made for baby are made for their delicate, sensitive skin, so who’s to say that you can’t benefit from them, too?

Numbers 5 and 6 are safe for babies and adults, so get some for the whole household to use!

  • Try Organic and Vegan Products. The more natural, the better, and the fewer ingredients, the better!

Some brands go overboard with ingredients and end up having to add more in order to preserve them all. That probably means adding in harsh chemicals and non-skin-friendly ingredients, so if the label is too long, then put it back on the shelf.

Vegan-friendly products are great, too, because there are no animal products included and no animal testing done. Ingredients are usually organic and very few, which can be helpful if you’re trying to figure out which ingredients tend to irritate your skin.

DIY Version!

You’ll notice that number 10 on our list is a DIY version. We didn’t rate it because it not a solution that everyone is interested in; however, it is the best moisturizer for sensitive skin due to all of the natural ingredients!

You can find plenty of recipes out there, but we liked this mixture (jojoba oil, shea butter, coconut oil, plum kernel oil and any essential oil like chamomile or lavender will do).

Top 3 Best Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin Reviews

This is a pure, natural moisturizer that nature provides, so rather than going through a lab and being mixed with a bunch of other ingredients, it acts as a powerful moisturizer all on its own.

We love it!

2. Puracy Organic Hand and Body Lotion
