One of the most commonly asked questions on the internet is probably about…
Pokémon Go? Brexit? How to lose weight?
We were thinking more along the lines of what is the best moisturizer for dry skin, but then again, that’s just us (and you, in this case!).
In our guide below, we will answer that question by highlighting the top ten moisturizers that your thirsty, parched skin is dying for and provide you with plenty of useful shopping tips that will help you choose the right product.
There are plenty of good products available, but here, we wanted to throw in a few that you might not have considered, so check out the great choices in our table and then head on down for all of the info you’ll need to choose one.
First, Narrow down the Choices
Here are a few things to take into consideration in order to help you narrow down the choices.
- Are you looking for something to use on your face, hands or all over the body? We’ve labeled this for you in our table, so it should be easy to find what you need.
- Is this seasonal dry skin due to changes in the temperature and weather or do you constantly feel like you need to bath in a tub of lotion? If it is the latter, see our section: Are Your Current Products Drying You Out? below).
- Is price the determining factor? If so, we recommend that you invest in an oil or a raw butter that will last you quite a while. They may cost more up front, but you won’t need to replace them for quite a while, which ends up saving you money in the long run!

Have You Considered These Things?
Perhaps you’ve never really paid close attention to your skin and now that you have, you’re realized all of the particular details about it.
Overly sensitive to certain products, breakouts, excessively dry skin or excess oil production.
Before you can decide which is the best moisturizer for dry skin, you need to consider your own skin type in order to find one that will work.
- Sensitive Skin. Natural products, organic products and those that are free of fillers and chemicals are best for you.
Avoid products with artificial fragrances and too many ingredients. Keep it simple! Lotions that are marketed for babies without the “baby powder” scent are also idea since they are some of the gentlest formulas out there.
Now, while natural and organic products are great, that doesn’t mean that all of them will work for you. Are you allergic to nuts? Do certain oils cause your psoriasis or eczema to flare up?
Eliminating all of the “junk” ingredients makes a world of difference for those of you with sensitive skin but remember; it takes time to determine which ingredients irritate your skin, so just be patient!
- Are Your Current Products Drying You Out? Even the best moisturizer for dry skin in the world won’t be able to do much for you if your current products are sucking all of the moisture out.
Benzoyl peroxide, for example, is extremely effective at clearing up cystic acne, but one of its biggest side effects is over-drying of the skin. Yikes!
Cheap soaps with low quality ingredients can dry out your skin, too, so remember that a moisturizer isn’t the only solution to your problem: you might need to make some other changes in order to see a real difference.
- Combat Wrinkles With. Retinol creams and hyaluronic acid serums are not only great moisturizers but they are also great for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Hyaluronic acid, in particular, is a favorite since it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
Top 5 Best Moisturizer for Dry Skin Reviews
So many people swear by this product and even though we aren’t too fond of all the ingredients they used, we have to admit: this stuff works.
Thanks to the ceramides (which is a waxy lipid already present on the skin that helps waterproof it) and hyaluronic acid (which we already mentioned earlier); this formula gives your skin the boost of moisture that it craves.
This does an excellent job of penetrating the skin and helping your skin to create a protective layer that will keep the moisture from escaping.
For many, this is the go-to cream for eczema flare-ups since it is so effective!
Use it on the hands, feet, legs, arms, face and anywhere else on your body where the moisture is lacking. For the price, it is a tough product to beat!
Those of you looking for more of a raw, natural solution to dry skin might try some good ole’ coconut oil.
As we’re sure you’ve probably read, coconut oil is beneficial in many different ways and when used in the raw, it can be especially moisturizing to the skin on your face. Try replacing your regular drugstore moisturizer with some coconut oil for a week to see what happens. If it doesn’t work, you can put that coconut oil to use in plenty of other ways!
While we really like coconut oil, we wouldn’t recommend it for dry to extremely dry skin on the rest of the body since it just doesn’t penetrate far enough on its own. It usually does best when mixed with other ingredients (such as the Shea butter we’ll look at shortly) or essential oils that help it penetrate further.
If you’re a DIY fan, then you might enjoy whipping up a batch of homemade body butter with some of this, the Majestic Pure Raw and Unrefined Shea Butter and any of your favorite essential oils!
Dry skin and wrinkles…be gone!
This great hyaluronic acid cream from Amara Organics is great for those of you who are combatting both.
It contains retinol (which is actually Vitamin A in its purest form) have skin firming and skin brightening powers that will help give you a more youthful glow and as we told you already, the hyaluronic acid will help you lock all of the moisture in since it can hold 1,000 times its weight in water.
Age spots will fade, fine lines will fill in and your skin will be smooth and flake-free.
This is definitely one of our top facial moisturizers, especially if you have dry, aging skin!
Shea butter is a great product for anyone who is dealing with dry skin and acne prone skin and when used as a base in many homemade skin care products, it can work wonders.
We recommended earlier that you use it together with the coconut oil (number 2) and any of your favorite essential oils. There are plenty of recipes available, so find one that sounds yummy to you and slather it all over your dermis to give it the drink of moisture it needs.
The reason we like this particular brand so much is the fact that it is organic, raw and unrefined. It is as close to nature as it could possibly be.
Our final suggestion is a ready-to-use lotion that is actually intended for babies. The good news, however, is that it does not leave you smelling like baby powder.
This formula contains calendula (one of the most common oils used to combat eczema and cradle cap in babies), but since it is non-greasy, absorbs easily into the skin and helps moisturize extremely dry skin, we would recommend it to just about anyone.
If you are an adult with sensitive skin, this product is exactly what you need.
It comes with a nice pump dispenser, making it great for home use. Use some on your body when you get out of the shower or when the crisp winter air is whisking away all of the moisture from your skin.
Note that this does have a French lavender fragrance and might be too strong for some users.
